The Company You Keep

You are a reflection of the people inside your circle—or in my case—around the table.

So self-portrait: 14 friends: activists, poets, novelists, educators, a songstress, a rapper, several magicians, a pastor and entrepreneurs—some double and triple-dipping into each category.

I call my dinner The Friendsgiving. They don’t know this yet, but it’s a way to thank my friends for just being them; to place them in the same room with folks they’ve never met and cross-pollenate greatness with even more greatness. Literally giving friends to one another.

What were we celebrating? Each other. Add in 10 bottles of wine, some popsicles, and a carefully curated playlist, and five hours will slip past you in a blink.

Thankfulness is not just at the end of the year, so enjoy some photos, this fuego ass playlist and the recipes I snatched for my table.

See you at the next one.
